Homemade Potato Chips!

I was craving potato chips and this happened… Crispy ribbon cut BBQ and Tangy Ranch potato chips. This hit the spot!

Can you believe these were made in the microwave?! Who said chips can’t be healthier?
You still get the classic crunch and flavor without the extra grease you get from many store-bought chips. Plus you can save some coin and you know every ingredient. 🙂

One potato equals a serving

Ingredients

  • 1-2 potatoes
  • Olive oil ( I used the spray form, but either will work. If you use olive oil from the bottle be sure to brush the oil on both sides.)
  • Salt
  • Homemade BBQ seasoning (See recipe below)
  • Tasty’s Tangy Garlic, Ranch + Chives seasoning ( if you do not have this seasoning, I have created something similar below.)
  • Parchment paper

You can cut the potatoes using a mandolin, vegetable ribbon cutter, or go old school and slice them yourself. If you’re going to cut them yourself be sure to have a sharp knife, slowly cut and ensure they are thin enough. The thinner they are the more crunchier they will be!

Homemade BBQ Seasoning

  • Smoked Paprika ( It has to be smoked and not plain paprika because they give different flavors)
  • Chili Powder
  • Onion Powder
  • Garlic Powder
  • Salt
  • Mix all together and sprinkle on finished chips

Homemade Cool Ranch Seasoning

  • Dried Parsley
  • Dried Dill
  • Dried Chives
  • Onion Powder
  • Garlic Powder
  • Ground Pepper
  • Salt
  • Mix all together and sprinkle on finished chips

Instructions

  1. Slice potatoes, using any method mentioned above.
  2. Place sliced potatoes in cold water for 15 minutes. Drain and rinse until water is clear. You’ll want to be sure to remove the starch in order to have crispy chips.
  3. Place potato slices on kitchen towel and pat dry with paper towels. Ensure they are dry to enjoy its crispiness!
  4. Place a sheet of parchment paper on a microwave safe plate.
  5. Once they are dry, place potato slices on parchment paper, be sure not to overlap so they can cook evenly. Add a pinch of salt. You may have to do this step in batches depending on the amount of slices and the size of your plate.
  6. Microwave for four minutes on one side and 30-35 seconds on the other side.
  7. Season and enjoy!

Microwave heating instructions are dependent on the watts of your microwave and how crispy you’d like your chips. When they start to get tan or brow it’s time to flip them over.
